Hypermodern Cooking with the Volcano Vaporizer

The Volcano vaporizer is a high end multi-use hot air machine that has made its way into some of the world's most famous restaurants. Chefs use the Volcano Vaporizer to produce aroma for a better dining experience. The Volcano Vaporizer is made in Germany by Storz and Bickel GmBH and Co.

March 8, 2009  -- The Volcano Vaporizer is the newest appliance to enter the kitchens of some of the world's most renowned restaurants. Chefs have discovered that the Volcano Vaporizer is the premier instrument for enhancing the delicate balance of flavors in cuisine using aroma vapor.

Aromatization is the process of using vapor to add flavor or aroma to food. The Volcano produces the purest vapors while minimizing any bitter or unpleasant flavors, and that it gently releases aromas and scents from a wide array of spices, potpourri style plant materials, or incenses. In comparison to smoking foods, the flavor is far more subtle and pure.

The Volcano releases the pure aromatic essence of the spice or other essential oils or plant materials which can potentially be used for a wide variety of applications from flavoring foods to creating aromas for ambience. The unique feature of the Volcano in these applications is the purity of vapor transferred. Material is never burned, it is vaporized, and other devices can't produce the same level of purity.

Spice-laden vapor fills a bag fresh off the Volcano, and then the food is placed into the bag, sealed and cooked. A method known as "cooking with oven hose". A tasty example of a dish enhanced with a pure aroma is crab meat aromatized with thyme.

Another method was demonstrated recently at the San Francisco Fancy Foods show by Storz and Bickel representatives. They used a large bell shaped cover which is placed over the food after vapor is dispersed under the cover. This presentation uses the Volcano to simply supply an initial aroma for the patron as the cover is lifted from the plate when the dish is served to the customer. Properly done, the vapor teases and then adds to the initial presentation experience.

Finally, the Aroma Pillow is a technique made famous at the restaurant Alinea in Chicago. The bag is filled with vapor from the Volcano and the chef places the dish directly on the pillow. Just as the meal is served, small wholes are poked in the pillow. As the customer enjoys, the aroma from the pillow is slowly dispersed through the tiny holes adding an aroma experience that lasts throughout the meal.

In the book 'Alinea' lavender flowers are used for the pillow, and the technique is described. Famous chefs of the molecular gastronomy movement use the Volcano. So called "molecular chefs" are on the cutting edge of the food world. Some have discovered that the Volcano ads a new dimension to cuisine.

Volcano Vaporizer Goes Digital

Low maintenance Easy Valve adds a twist

June 25, 2007 --

In response to high consumer demand for quality vaporizers, a new version of the popular Volcano Vaporizer is now on the market, featuring more accurate, digital control over vaporization temperature. It is augmented by a low-maintenance valve set that makes "filling the balloon" a breeze.

Volcano Vaporizer Classic and new Digit units both accommodate the standard Solid Valve, mouthpiece and inflatable balloon, but to upgrade the product line, German manufacturers also introduced the Easy Valve, with a unique membrane system that allows users to fill multiple balloons at once.

The primary requirement of a vaporizer is the capacity to maintain a temperature just above the point of vaporization in order to obtain an optimum level of both efficiency and flavor, and minimized production of harmful substances The digital unit is more accurate, within plus or minus 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas the Classic is within nine degrees. Both are very effective. the digital base will appeal to customers who are looking to upgrade because maybe they've had the Classic for a long time and are ready for something new.

The Volcano Digit offers precision electronic control - the user can set the unit's vaporization temperature between 104-446 degrees Fahrenheit. The Classic unit's bimetal regulator permits a vaporization-temperature range of 226-446 degrees.

The primary requirement of a vaporizer is the capacity to maintain a temperature just above the point of vaporization in order to obtain an optimum level of both efficiency and flavor, and minimized production of harmful substances.

The Easy Valve is lighter and more robust than the Solid Valve, with a filling chamber diameter optimized for personal use. It requires less maintenance and set-up time than its predecessor, and its new design means the valve-balloon attachment is always ready to use. Once the Easy Valve is no longer usable, it is replaced with a new one, while the filling chamber is cleaned and re-used.

These exciting developments open the door to four possible combinations for Volcano users, since the Classic and Digit both accommodate the two types of valves. We encourage customers to get both the Easy Valve and Solid Valve because it's handy to have both valve sets. If you have a community setting, you can fill up additional balloons, rather than being restricted to one balloon.

The award-winning Volcano is widely regarded by consumers as the most effective vaporizer on the market.

Warning: The Volcano Vaporizer is not approved for medical-therapeutic purposes. Consult your doctor and pharmacist before using. You may notice that materials you are vaporizing cause an allergic reaction. In such a case you are urgently recommended to refrain from using the plant. Only use the plant parts which have been verified according to the regulations of your country's governing agency with regard to genuineness, purity and pathogenic germs. Vaporizers will not eliminate health risks associated with tobacco. Consumers assume all risks associated with use of the products noted above.

Storz & Bickel Introduce Improvements to Volcano Vaporizer

New air pump is so powerful, it can use a clip.

December 5, 2006 -- Storz & Bickel, German manufacturer of the Volcano Vaporizer, recently introduced a couple of significant improvements - a new air pump that makes the bag inflate twice as fast, and another that keeps the bag from blasting off into outer-space from the increased inflating power.

What really differentiates the Volcano from other vaporizers is the unit's ability to maintain optimal control over temperature. Now that same control is maintained with a much higher velocity.

The new Volcano is so robust that it is capable of blowing the bag right off the valve if you use only one O-ring, or leave it on the base too long," he added. "The air pump has almost twice the output of the older units, and yet it maintains as good or better control over the temperature consistency at output.

That's why we've introduced a new balloon clip. The Volcano still works well with the black O-rings, but some will find the new clip works even better.

The timing of the Volcano add-ons coincides with Storz & Bickel studies on herbal alternatives that make a great fit with the device - sage leaves (salvia officinalis), hops cones (humulus lupulus), and the flowers of chamomile (matriarca chamomilla). Vaporizing thyme herb (thymus vulgaris), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) eucalyptus (eucalyptus globules) leaves, and lavender (lavendula angustifolia) flowers also works well, according to the company's test results.

The Volcano is manufactured in Tuttlingen, a town in Southern Germany regarded internationally as the center of medical technology development and manufacturing. It is sold in the United States through an agreement with Vaporizeit.com and subsidiaries. More information on the Volcano may be obtained at www.vaporizeit.com or www.storz-bickel.com .

Warning: The Volcano Vaporizer is not designed for medical-therapeutic purposes. If you have any health problem consult your doctor or pharmacist before using. You may notice that materials you are vaporizing cause an allergic reaction. In such a case you are urgently recommended to refrain from using the plant.

Volcano Vaporizer Pioneers Use of Alternative Herbs

Sensation of herbal experience enhanced by cutting-edge technology.

November 15, 2006 --

Consumers consider the award-winning Volcano Vaporizer multi-use hot air machine one of the most effective vaporizers on the market, and in keeping with a pioneering spirit the company has released a list of approved herbal alternatives it says provide the smoothest vaporization experience.

German manufacturer of the device - Storz & Bickel - suggests vaporizing herbal alternatives such as sage leaves, hops cones (humulus lupulus), and the flowers of chamomile (matriarca chamomilla). Vaporizing thyme herb (thymus vulgaris), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) and eucalyptus (eucalyptus globules) leaves, and lavender (lavendula angustifolia) flowers, also works well, according to the company's test results.

Hundreds of herbal alternatives from around the world are aromaticized for a variety of uses and experiences. For many centuries humans have utilized herbs for cooking, flavoring, aroma, and their curative properties and health benefits.

Natural herbs make a logical partner to the device.

The device accomplishes this by maintaining a temperature that allows only the inhalation of less-harmful vapors rather than smoke, while still holding onto the flavor of the combustible material.

The primary requirement of a vaporizer is the capacity to maintain the temperature just above the point of vaporization in order to obtain an optimum level of both efficiency and flavor, and the minimized production of harmful substances. The Volcano Vaporizer accomplishes this with surprising efficiency, and everybody loves the balloon.

The Volcano is manufactured in Tuttlingen, a town in Southern Germany regarded internationally as the center of medical technology development and manufacturing. It is sold in the United States through many distributors. More information on the Volcano can be obtained at www.storz-bickel.com.

Volcano Vaporizer Extends Competitive Edge

The Volcano Vaporizer is the world’s leading vaporizer, and Storz and Bickel continues it’s commitment to produce the very best. A new removable air filter and a retooling in the manufacturing process leading to a weight savings of about a pound help assure that the Volcano will maintain its leadership position over several newer entrants into the Vaporizer market.

The Volcano has always been the most technologically advanced Vaporizer, and now these refinements keep us ahead. There are several new types of Vaporizers that have been introduced in the last year. Most of these are lower cost alternatives, whereas the Volcano is a high-end product.

Previous versions of the Volcano have an internal filter. So, if it they ever became clogged, the only option is to send the unit back to the manufacturer for replacement. With the new version, the filter can be replaced by the end user.

Weight and materials savings has also been achieved in the new version. Retooling of the processes used to manufacture some of the casings and housings used in the Volcano has lead to some significant weight savings. The total weight is down to about 5 pounds from about 6 pounds.

The design and critical components remain unaltered in the newest generation of the Volcano. In fact, the unit is the same design as when first introduced in 2001. The Company continues, however, to make ongoing refinements to the Volcano, and new products are also planned for the future.

We expect that the Company will eventually introduce new vaporization products. We think that Storz and Bickel is unlikely to try to compete with the low-end vaporizer manufacturers, and will continue its tradition by introducing the only truly refined vaporization units made in the world.

Sophisticated, high-tech vaporizers like the Volcano are a new development. The Volcano is also used for aromatherapy, incensing, and vapor diffusion.

Volcano Vaporizer Is Still Top of the Line - Forced-air vaporizers continue to prove effectiveness over direct heat.

September 16, 2005 -- Users continue to rave about the innovative smokeless experience and reliable operation of the Volcano Vaporizer aromatherapy device, while forced-air vaporizers in general are proving their effectiveness in a crowded market of inexpensive, direct-heat devices.

The Volcano has received numerous accolades from industry professionals, such as the Dr. Rudolph Eberle Prize for innovation in Germany, and Best Vaporizer 2003 here in the U.S. Other companies have tried – with limited success – to copy the Volcano’s unique experience, which literally allows the user to "smoke without smoking™". The patented device accomplishes this by allowing inhalation of only less-harmful vapors, rather than smoke, while maintaining all the flavor of the plant material.

The major difference between less-expensive vaporizers and the Volcano is the way heat is transferred – a key element in successful vaporization. Many manufacturers of inexpensive vaporizers such as BC, Aromed, Vapor Doc, Vapor Cannon and other box-style vaporizers are less effective because they rely on a heat plate or may even directly combust the plant material, bringing it to the point of burning rather than simply removing the useful vapors and leaving behind the plant residue.

High-quality vaporizers like the Volcano are considered top of the line because they utilize a forced-air chamber, bringing the plant material to a high temperature without burning it.

The best vaporizers on the market use forced air. Vapir, and the Volcano are good examples of forced air devices. Of these, the Volcano is the highest quality vaporizer, with the best results on test subjects and the easiest to use among many choices out there.

Some use a heat gun, but this is not advisable because it can impart chemicals from plastics, rubbers, and metals used in the gun. Heat guns are not made as inhalation devices. They are for industrial use, not medical use. The Volcano is 100-percent medical grade, and this is very important since vaporizers are made to create breathable vapor which is clean and imparts no residue.

Some vaporizers use an aluminum heating element, while others may utilize a ceramic element. While ceramic is cleaner, it does not create an even temperature control so the results may be unpredictable. We recommend vaporizers that rely on aluminum elements for heat, such as the Volcano.

Makers of ceramic elements argue they are cleaner burning, while manufacturers who use aluminum elements argue that temperature control is more efficient with an aluminum block. The element does not attain a high enough temperature to oxidize the aluminum, so the block presents no more health threat than an aluminum can. Plus, the aluminum heats more evenly and quickly. The best vaporizer – the Volcano – uses an aluminum block. The manufacturer is looking into ceramic elements that can work, but one reason the Volcano maintains such perfect temperature control is because it uses an aluminum element and block, and aluminum has different properties than potential practical designs using ceramics. An aluminum element and block can more rapidly adjust for effects of air pressure and flow over plant material.

The best Vaporizers are more advanced than ever before, but they still have a ways to go considering they use plastics, aluminum and other materials that can potentially produce toxins, he added. The key to vaporization is maintaining control over temperature and flow, which ultimately leads to more perfect control over vapor density.

The Volcano is the leading edge vaporizer on the market. Serious wholesale inquiries should be directed to www.vaporizeit.com.

Volcano Vaporizer collecting 2003 awards for “smokeless” innovation

The revolutionary Volcano Vaporizer continues to receive accolades from industry professionals and users themselves for the innovative “smokeless” experience it provides.

On Nov. 17, 2003, representatives of Storz & Bickel GMBH and Co., German manufacturers of the Volcano, accepted the Dr. Rudolph Eberle Prize for innovation in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The prize is awarded annually (since 1985) to small- and medium-sized businesses in the region that have implemented outstanding technological innovations. The prize committee used the criteria of technical progress, special entrepreneurial achievement and the economic success of the innovation in making its decision.

Since its inception, excitement surrounding this incredibly simple but effective product keeps growing, and why wouldn´t it? The Volcano Vaporizer is a unique experience which allows the user to “smoke without smoking”™. The patented device accomplishes this by allowing inhalation of only the less-harmful vapors rather than smoke while maintaining all the flavor. But the thing most people rave about is the unique balloon which fills with translucent vapor held in by a mouth-release valve.

"This recognition underscores the inventive and entrepreneurial achievement we put into developing and marketing the Volcano while providing us with the incentive to develop similarly innovative applications,” said one of the manufacturers of the Volcano after receiving the Eberle Prize.

The Volcano comes from in Tuttlingen, a town in Southern Germany regarded internationally as the center of medical technology development and manufacturing.

A multitude of carcinogenic materials is present in smoke. This device removes the tar and smoke along with 80 percent of the harmful combusted materials from the vapor.

The primary requirement of a vaporizer is the capacity to maintain the temperature just above the point of vaporization in order to obtain an optimum level of both efficiency and flavor, along with minimized production of harmful substances. Other points are the greatest level of safety for the user, ease of operation and inhalation, which is separate from the vaporizing process. The Volcano solves the problem of hot-air generation by employing an astoundingly simple principle: the air is pumped through a heated aluminum block (similar to an oven with aeration ducts) and thus inevitably assumes the desired temperature, while a diaphragm pump ensures the air flow remains constant.

This device functions so effectively that electronic controls are not needed. A bimetallic control mechanism is sufficient to ensure a maximum air temperature fluctuation of +-4°C in the filling chamber, meaning the Volcano has the most accurate temperature control of all vaporizers.

The electric set-up of the Volcano has been kept as simple and robust as possible.
